Data Collection & Security
Why do I have to sign in with Google?
To make sure your data is secure, we are requiring Google sign-in (a known and respected industry standard) instead of spending our limited resources devising our own custom sign-in system, which may end up being less secure. If your administration is uneasy about this, please encourage them to reach out to us! All that is happening is that Google is telling us your name, email, and profile picture. You are also welcome to use your personal email if you prefer. We are working on allowing Microsoft login as well.
Does this mean Google will gain access to all my QuestionWell
information?
Absolutely not, in no way shape or form. Google tells us your name, email, and profile picture, and that is the only interaction we have with Google, other than if you would like to export to Google Forms/Docs/Slides, in which case you give special access for us to make a that one file in your drive. This does not grant us access to any other Google data or anything else in your drive.
Does this mean
QuestionWell will gain access to all my Google information?
Absolutely not, in no way shape or form. We cannot access anything except your name, email, and profile picture. If you would like to export to Google Forms/Docs/Slides, we also need permission to create those files in your account. This does not grant us access to any other Google data or anything else in your drive.
What exactly am I agreeing to? How do I know you don't gain access to my drive?
By signing in with Google, you agree to let us see and associate you with your "personal info". However, in this case "personal info" is specifically defined to include only your name, email, and profile picture.

Only if you want to create Forms/Docs/Slides in your google account, we request access to do so. The exact wording is "See, edit, create, and delete only the specific Google Drive files you use with this app".
In short, we are asking for the least possible amount of information. There are other scopes, which are considered "sensitive" and "restricted", and we absolutely do not request any of those.
What do you do with student data?
We do NOT collect any student data, as this is a tool exclusively for teachers. It is against our Terms of Use for teachers to enter student data into the system, so we should not have any student data.
What data do you collect?
The only data we collect from your Google account is your name, profile picture, and email. Beyond that, we must collect and store what you enter into the site so your work stay intact. Just as you might imagine, this includes anything you write in the topic, reading, or learning outcomes. We also track actions you take on the site, such as which questions you select, flag, and delete. If you add your own questions we will store them as well, along with all the other questions.
All of this is in order to improve the quality of the product. We do not collect any personal information and in fact it is strictly prohibited by our Terms of Use for you to share any personal information with us.
If you want to export to Google slides, docs, or forms, then we request permission to create those files in your drive. This does NOT grant us access to any other files in your Google Drive or any other information in your account.
What do you with that data?
We do not sell or share your data to/with anyone. In the unlikely event there is a security breach, we will let you know as soon as we are aware of it. The only thing we use the data for is to internally improve the quality of the questions created by the AI. We hope our users appreciate this investment into the quality of the app.
Do you have
Terms of Use or
a Privacy Policy?
Yes. They can always be accessed from any page of this website, if you scroll to the bottom of the page. For convenience, here is our Terms of Use and here is our Privacy Policy.
I'm really nervous about this data thing. Does this mean you are collecting my personal data and gaining access to my Google account?
No. We've really gone out of our way to make this extremely secure. We also regularly sign Data Privacy Agreements with any schools and districts who request it. If you are concerned, please reach out with your specific questions or requests.
Do you get my billing information?
No, we only get your name, email, and picture.
Do you get my password information?
No, we only get your name, email, and picture.
Do you get . . .
some other sort of information?
No, we only get your name, email, and picture.
Do you have a Transparency Report?
Sure! Here is the Transparency Report. It comes out biannually, so the next one will become available June 2024.
Still concerned?
We'd love to hear from you.

Using QuestionWell
Why can't I choose the number of questions?
By default, the AI is set to try to produce 20 unique questions. Depending on the amount of content in the reading, it may produce more or fewer than that. From there, it is your job to check the work of the AI and edit if needed, as we do not guarantee accuracy. If you are only looking for five questions, you can choose the five BEST questions, instead of having to use the first five that the AI came up with.
Sometimes the questions are very similar.
Yes, we are working on that. If you'd like, you can edit the questions to be more different from each other. However there are also two silver linings to this:

1) Having very similar questions allows you to easily create multiple versions of any given assessment to prevent cheating or allow retakes.

2) Sometimes learners don't realize that quesitons that look nearly identical to us are asking about the same thing. Getting more practice on the same material can be very helpful in the learning process.
Can I include images or videos in my prompt?
At this time, we do not have that functionality. To work around this, you may want to copy and paste the transcript of a video into the Reading section. Once you have exported the questions into your desired platform, you can of course add images there. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Can you add my set of standards to the standards?
Absolutely! You can fill out this template spreadsheet and email us. We will input the standards in 1-3 business days. For now, we don't have a more streamlined way to add standards to the list, but we would be grateful if you helped us!
Can I get a copy of the invoices so I can be reimbursed?
Yes, you can do all of that through Stripe. Just follow the instructions here: questionwell.org/invoice
I'm running a PD and want to share QuestionWell. Do you have any resources for me?
Yes! Please reach out to maya@questionwell.ai for a discount code for your attendees as well as swag and informational materials.
How are you funded?
This is a passion project for my husband and me. Those who choose to pay for the subscription are helping us make our dream come true! But we also believe that impact is the most important in Education, so we are committed to making sure that the free version is usable and useful.
